Marquis Pitching Like An All-Star As Kinsler Makes All-Star Bid

Jason Marquis picked up his MLB-leading 11th win of the season tonight against Craig Stammen and the Nationals in a pitcher's duel. He tossed 8 shutout innings on 7 hits, 2 BBs, and 3 Ks. That's 17 consecutive scoreless innings, for those keeping count. The win was also Marquis' 90th of his career. He now has 6 straight seasons with 11 or more wins. That's what durability will do. At the plate, he was 1-3. His ERA is now 3.61.

Ian Kinsler hit his 20th HR of the season tonight, which ties a career-high. He was 1-4 with 1 HR, 2 RBIs, and 1 run scored against the Angels.

Kinsler also holds a slim lead after the first 24 hours in AL online fan voting for the All-Star Game. He's up against Brandon Inge, Chone Figgins, Adam Lind, and Carlos Pena. Voting continues in the Sprint Final Vote until 3 p.m. Thursday. To vote for Kinsler, simply follow this link and cast your vote.

Kevin Youkilis was 0-4 against the A's. His average has dipped below .300 for the first time all season.

Scott Schoeneweis gave up 1 run in 1/3 of an inning of work.

Finally, Sam Fuld was sent back down to Triple-A Iowa, despite having an immediate impact for the lackluster Cubs and winning over fans with his youthful energy and play. Tom Ricketts, if you're at all serious about turning this pathetic franchise around, the first thing you need to do is fire Jim Hendry. Fire him without delay.

Marquis has been sensational. This is easily the best year of his career.

Youkilis is in a slump and this Fan wonders if it's because of the position change.

Fuld was working out really nicely. The Cubs are idiots.

I had Kinsler as my starting 2B! I can't believe he wasn't even voted in as a reserve! And what makes Marquis all the more fascinating is that he's doing most of it in that bandbox known as Coors Field. I feel like he's tricked us into thinking he could do this for a full season before, though.
